Are You Leaving Anyone Behind? Let's rethink accessibility in our design processes! 💡

As digital designers, we hold the power to shape the future through our creations. But have you ever stopped to consider who might be left behind in the process? One of the most important aspects of design is still often overlooked: accessibility and inclusivity 💫

I had a conversation with a family member yesterday, who didn't even know accessibility was even a digital topic, what to do with it or who it affected 🤯

Clearly it's time to challenge our assumptions and rethink our design strategies to ensure that we're creating experiences that truly serve all users.

According to Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, "The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect."💯

It's not just about complying with regulations; it's about empowering everyone to access and interact with digital products and services, regardless of their abilities.

Designing for accessibility not only benefits individuals with disabilities but also enhances the overall user experience for everyone. One example could be designing an app for ordering food. By implementing features such as clear and concise text, color contrast, and intuitive navigation, you not only make the app usable for individuals with visual impairments but also improve the experience for those people in noisy environments where they can't focus on the screen fully.

Not only do these practices apply to how we design and build websites and apps but to PDFs as well! Navigating an invoice or a proposal using a screen reader is 100 times easier if the file is already built taking the assertive technology into consideration, building hirarchy and properly using alt text.

Join me in learning and embracing this crucial aspect of design. Let's challenge ourselves to think beyond the surface and strive for inclusivity in every step of our design process. Together, we can truly make sure no one is left behind.
